After more than four decades in the pulpit, Bishop Hilliard's ministry found a second language: paint. Working in acrylic, oil, and mixed media — layered, textured, and unapologetically vivid — he explores the connection between faith and wellness, and the joy that survives every storm.
His retrospective exhibition, From the Pulpit to the Palette, was presented at Tucker Contemporary Art in 2024, and his work has been shown at the Mariposa Museum in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts, on Martha's Vineyard. Those viewing periods have concluded — today the complete collection is presented online.

Bishop Hilliard's paintings have been shown in public and institutional settings — a 2024 retrospective at Tucker Contemporary Art and an exhibition at the Mariposa Museum in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts. The work is not currently on display in a gallery.
